Ulduar Protodrakes to be with us a bit longer!   5 comments

Eyonix just posted the following comment:

After further discussion, we decided not to remove the rusted and ironbound proto-drake rewards for the normal and heroic Glory of the Ulduar Raider meta achievements when patch 3.2, Call of the Crusade, launches, and currently have no plans to remove them in the foreseeable future. However, we will continue to evaluate the situation and if a decision is made to remove these rewards at any point in the future, we’ll provide a one month warning so players will have time to make some final attempts.

I am really excited about this change.  I would very much like to be able to get these for our 25 man raid team, but we just aren’t fast enough with the hard mode kills to have it done before 3.2.  We generally get things done, but tend to do it on Monolith’s schedule, which often means we are a bit slower to get things done than many progression push guilds.  So I am very happy with the change, and hope that even after 3.2 people will still be motivated enough to keep going back into Ulduar to knock it out while we are waiting for Ice Crown.  Although…I think Blizzard’s intent is for people to continue Ulduar while working on the coliseum anyhow.

This also makes me wonder if 3.2 isn’t going to be on our doorsteps faster than I anticipated it arriving.  They are still testing the collesium bosses, and I don’t know that I’ve seen much scheduling specifically for the new PvP zone, but they’ve certainly released untested content in the past.  So, I suppose only time will tell.

It does, however, take a little bit of the “omg we aren’t going to get it done” pressure off of me.  Fewer things to stress about is always good! :)

  1. /dance!!

Personally, I think the Ulduar gear looks a LOT nicer than the coliseum gear, and will probably be a prettier instance still, too. I don’t want to give up Ulduar just because of T9 content… afterall, Algalon’s still up there laughing at me, dangling the Starcaller title in front of my nose!!

  2. I know this will make many people very very happy. NO idea if I have a chance. But I have lots of friends who might have a chance at the 10 man one.

  3. @Kae and Aert –

I am extremely happy with the change. While I think we can probably get the 10 man one done before 3.2, we do not have a chance at the 25 man one.

Actually, I’m not even positive about the 10 man one, as we’ve only been running the 10 man one night a week, and not really focusing much on the more difficult hard modes (however, we did just start work on Firefighter, and are giving the 10 man two nights this week).

Overall though, I think it’s a good thing. The zone is just so big, and there are so many things in the Meta Achievement that take time to learn, that I truly do believe a little more time is warranted.

  4. Keeva got the 25man one from Naxx etc, which is awesome.. but it was looking like Kiiva would never get a chance. She still might not.. but at least this gives me more of a chance :)

  5. Fortunately, you can get all the meta requirements in a single evening this time around–no more having to do the same fight multiple mostly-exclusive ways over the course of a month in order to complete it. No more nailbiter immortal/undying BS either; every attempt can be wiped and retried if things aren’t going your way.

To boot, the 10-man requirements are actually fairly soft for heroic raid veterans such as yourselves. In my opinion, the hardest 10-man requirement now is Freya+3. So, if you can get that one, the rest should be smooth sailing.

    Best of luck!
