Dannie’s Paladin Power Aura Settings (with exports!)   3 comments

Continuing on with my Power Auras exports, I thought I would share those I have set for my paladin next.  Very similar to how I had Beru’s set up, they are fairly basic, but provide me with the information that I need to know, and even in their simplicity work very well for me.

Before we get into the pictures and exports, I want to comment on my style. When I was learning Power Auras, the person that helped me learn the mod had told me that he tends to use icon settings so that he remembers what each setting is for, indicating that when he just used auras and squiggles and what not, he tended to forget what each “aura” indicated.  As I went on my Powa journey, I found that this was true for me as well, so all of my settings will mirror icons.

Now, there is no “right” way to do this, so if you prefer “auras” and that works better for you, you should set those up!  Everyone will find that something works different for them, and should experiment until they find something they feel comfortable with.  And now, to the pictures and exports!

Dannie Power Aura

One thing that is quite a bit different about Dannie’s settings is that I have different things that I need to keep track of.  So I utilized timers in several of my settings to assist me know knowing exactly how long certain buffs have remaining before they require a refresh.  As you can see here, almost all of Dannie’s settings are right below where I place grid and right next to my casting bar.  As a paladin I find that I rely on my casting bar far more than my druid.  So where on Beru I may have several things that are in my face, on Dannie, because my focus is often on my casting bar, this information is very easy for me to see.

As I go through my exports I will work from left to right for those that you see in the picture above.

Divine Plea – This icon will show when Divine Plea is available for use, and will disappear when it is on cool down.

Beacon of Light – This setting does two things.  It will be present when beacon of light is active on a target in my party or raid, and it will count down the time remaining on Beacon of Light.  This let me know quickly if Beacon has dropped, and how long is remaining until I need to refresh.

Sacred Shield – I use my sacred shield icon a bit different from Beacon of Light.  I only have it show when it has dropped from my target – this is largely because I was bad about remembering to keep it active, so I wanted to know when it was not active to remind myself to put it up.  And because even that wasn’t as effective as I had hoped, I put a sound queue that will play when it drops from a target.  Currently it meows at me…leading people to believe that I have a cat ;)

Judgements of the Pure – Very similar to Beacon of Light I use this buff to tell me two things: If I currently have Judgements of the Pure active, and how long I have until I need to refresh the buff.  Generally I try to refresh my judgements when they wear off, but sometimes you just don’t have the GCD to do that, and this really helps keep your Judgements of the Pure uptime at 100%.

Holy Shock – While this spell isn’t as useful in our tool kit as it seems it will be in Cataclysm, it is one of our only instant cast spells that we can utilize while mobile.  For that reason I like to know when it is off cool down so that if I have to move I know that I have it available for me to cast.  This will show when it is available and disappear when it is not.

Seal of Wisdom – I found often times that I would zone in after a wipe, or get ready to play after being AFK a bit, and I wouldn’t realize that I didn’t have a seal active until the first time I went to judge.  Which then meant that I had to use a GCD to activate a seal, another to judge, and then finally I could cast a heal.  This in itself isn’t terrible, but I added this to my settings so that it would tell me if I had Seal of Wisdom active.  It shows when it is not active, to remind me to put it up.

Low Mana – Part in parcel with being a healer is managing you mana.  Only with a paladin it is important to know once you have hit that 75% mana threshold when you are in an encounter to utilize divine plea for the first time, and largely you will use it on cool down after that.  This setting will place a blue Aura Under me when I reach 75% mana, and provides a soft ding to remind me to activate Divine Plea.

I hope that these were helpful! If you are looking for any of my encounter settings, please refer back to Beru’s settings, as I carry over all of her encounter settings for all of my healers.  There are a few settings that I have thought about adding to Dannie, namely Bubble, HoP and HoF, but I generally do fairly well at tracking those via my toolbar and utilizing OmniCC.  So I opted not to clutter up and duplicate things that I already do fairly well with tracking, but I definitely think that they could be useful settings - especially if I PvPed.  Again, I cannot stress enough the importance of experimenting and finding settings that will work best for you!  When I have the time I will try to get Mynn’s and Earenn’s exports up as well.

  1. This post was really insightful. I’m actually in the process of setting up auras on my paladin, now that he’s actually raiding. I’ve never thought of putting timers on my auras. I’ll have to look into those. :)

    • I’m glad it helped! I absolutely love the timers. As I was going through these last night, I was actually debating changing my SS to work more like beacon, up when active and with the timer. I’m just not sure if it distinguishes the buff from the HoT :)

  2. Finally!
I was browsing for help with setting a POWA up for my Beacon of Light. All other help pages I found worked based on your focus target, and I really don’t want to have to tie up my focus target for this; especially when I know it wasn’t needed to do it.

The other auras are really useful, too.

Thank you so much for sharing this! You made my day!
