I took TONS of really great pictures today, and came back to the hotel to download them, only to discover that I packed the wrong cord :( As such, I will have to post them on Sunday when I get back home!
I am sure that everyone is aware by now that the big announcement at this Blizzcon is the new expansion, Cataclysm. From everything that has been discussed so far, it sounds…interesting. There is another panel tomorrow regarding some of the more in depth changes that I’m looking forward to hearing. I am not going to regurgitate all of the news for you all, as others have already done it better and more in depth that I can! (I am beat!). But I will share some of the more fun things that maybe didn’t get picked up on the DirectTV feed/Live Stream.
They have the starting areas for both the goblins and the worgen available for play. I have not played them yet, because after standing in line for ~60+ minutes outside to enter the venue, and then another 2ish hours for the Blizzard Store (yes, I fail at pre-ordering) I didn’t feel much like standing in any more lines today. However, there is a chunk of time tomorrow afternoon that I intend to take a peek at them and will let you know what I thought :)
Brade played both the Starcraft and Diablo III bits that were available and said that they both were quite good. So, if you are interested in either of those platforms, I do not think that you will be disappointed!
I was able to get some up close and personal looks (and pictures) of some of the costumes (yes! I got the resto druid and the moonkin!) that I will post up for you all at home. The winner’s costume up front was just amazing, as I saw her early in the day. She 100% deserved to win, and certainly had my vote!
After visiting the figure prints booth, I have decided that I will be ordering a figure print. They look really great, and after having spent almost 5 years playing WoW, having something that will memorialize it for me years down the road seems like a decent investment, and a good story :)
The convention center itself is absolutely packed with people! I have been hoping that I might run into one of the World of Matticus team to get a picture and conversation for Aertimus, but even with their shirts I’ve not had a lick of luck in doing so! I will continue to keep an eye out tomorrow! The crowd seems to ebb and flow wherever the warcraft discussion was occurring, and seating is scarce! But so far all of the panels that I have been to have had great information.
I think the most interesting (non-expansion) bit of info that we got today was the way that battle.net was going to stream all of the Blizzard games together, so that someone playing WoW can chat with someone playing Starcraft, etc. I think that will be a unique and very interesting development.
I am also continuously amazed by the diversity of those attending the convention this year. I look around and am amazed at all of the different people that take part in the WoW universe. It really has become something that is so big, and so unique, that it draws people from every age and all walks of life. I absolutely love the diversity that I see when I look around at the other atendees. I honestly don’t think that I have the words to explain just how neat it really is.
I am basically on information overload right now, and haven’t had a lot of time to really sit down and “think” about any of the new things that were presented to us today. I imagine that process will occur on the plane ride home as Brade and I mill over the weekend.
All in all though, I think the best part about Blizzcon so far, just like in previous years, is getting to hang out with others from Monolith. We have an Ihop breakfast tradition that we have continued to maintain, and the conversation and commaderie is just wonderful. It is by far one of my favorite things about the convention.
Alright! Off to dinner for me now!
