Ya’ Mon…this sucks.   8 comments

•Tree of Life is changing from a passive talent to a cooldown-based talent, similar to Metamorphosis. Mechanically, it feels unfair for a druid to have to give up so much offense and utility in order to be just as good at healing as the other classes who are not asked to make that trade. We are exploring the exact benefit the druid gets from Tree of Life. It could strictly be better healing, or it could be that each heal behaves slightly different. You also will not be able to be banished in Tree of Life form (this will probably be true of Metamorphosis as well). Additionally, we would like to update the Tree of Life model so that it feels more exciting when you do decide to go into that form. Our feeling is that druids rarely actually get to show off their armor, so it would be nice to have at least one spec that looked like a night elf or tauren (and soon troll or worgen) for most of the time.

And that seals the deal.  I will be a troll come Cataclysm, I cannot stand the tauren casting model.  I fucking hate this change.  I hated the concept when GC first tossed it out months ago, and I hate it again now.  I hope to fucking christ this does not go live.

I have actually now deleted about 4 rants from this spot.  I’m going to sleep on this and see if it seems any better in the morning.  Oh…and I’ll give my thoughts on the other resto changes (not that there is much to opine on!), but I just needed to get this out of my system now.

Just say NO to ToL Changes!

If you too, feel we should save the trees, please feel free to share Keeva’s picture on your blog! Perhaps if there is enough rustle in the wind, someone will feel the breeze!

  1. I feel bad for you PvE’ers…I am not particularly bothered by this change. Iconic, yes…but I never spent much time in it in my primary PvP setting — it felt too much like a blinking neon target on my back and I lost a ton of the necessary arena utility having to switch in and out of it.

    • You know…I never really thought much of it, but now that you mention it, this, like many of the other changes that have been rolled out, also seems to be very PvP oriented.

Having to give up utility to be out of ToL? 100% PvP oriented. And honestly…I think that just pisses me off even more. I understand that there were certain imbalances with ToL with regards to a druid’s utility in PvP, but I also think there was probably a better way to resolve them. And no offense to those who throughly enjoy the PvP aspect of the game, but constantly having PvE shit nerfed and changed to try and “balance” PvP is bullshit. How many changes did LB go through this expansion alone?

  2. I dont think this is necessarily a PVP oriented change. I think a lot of druids hate tree form. Myself included. When we rolled druids, there was no tree form, it was forced on us and just because it’s been around for years doesn’t mean it should stay.

I agree with Blizz that druids should not have to give up their utility and power when they want to do something that isn’t healing. It’s a huge pain in the butt to have to switch back and forth between tree and caster when you want to CC something, or give a little hand with DPS on trash.

I love the cooldown idea. Rather than give up utility to go into tree form, now tree form will (hopefully) actually provide a benefit.

  3. NO, indeed.
I will either stop playing or… I don’t know what, if this goes live. I WANT MY TREE!!!!

  5. Why are people so worked up about a costume?
Should be more worried that we got nothing new next expac.

  6. I agree with the number of f-bombs in this post. It echoes my sentiments exactly. 🙂

  7. I am neutral on this so far. I am waiting to hear more. I vaguely remember the days before tree form casting the different ranks of HT on tanks/raid. I was not a huge fan. I cheered swiftmend when it came out because it was another Oh S#@% button.

I think a druid should be about shifting forms and not be stuck in one form- but I am not sure having a CD button ala Metamorphosis is the answer either. This seems to go against what Ghostcrawler had stated earlier about wanting Druids to shift more- a CD ability is not a real shapechange in my eyes. And why only resto? Why not let a Feral Druid tank or dps just as well in caster form for that matter? Could you imagine the uproar that would cause. (Of course this won’t happen after the remodeling of feral..) I guess I think a tree form should stay after all, but with say a greater Tree of Life CD or maybe a Cenarion/Nymph model CD.

If they really want more shifting- make encounters where druids need to shift more or tailor the talents differently so you are not forced into a specialty..of course I am thinking in terms of the ways talents work now-not the way Cataclysm is going to work. I guess I need to hear more after all.
