It’s been awhile since I’ve done an update, but that’s partly because I don’t know how much there is to update. In the game not a ton has changed. I mean, some things have, but mostly things are the same. However, there are a few things that I’d like to say, and I figure this is as good a place as any to say them.
I Love My Guild
As I often tell the guild, this is something I don’t think I say enough. So I’m going to just say it. I have the privilege to raid with a group of people that for the most part I genuinely enjoy spending time with. Maybe some of them stand in the fire more than I’d like, but as a whole there is no one in my guild that I just can’t stand. And I believe that is a pretty rare thing.
Why am I telling you this?
Well, it’s kind of two fold. Firstly, anytime I use my blog as a brain dump/stress relief/dear diary therapy I invariably get that one comment about how maybe I need a break, or need to find a different community for my raid time. I’m just going to put it out here: I don’t. One of the reasons I started this blog was to get thing out of my head. To put my stress in a medium that isn’t me screaming at my raid.
And you know what? It’s worked. I’m a significantly calmer raid leader because I have a venue where I can dump my thoughts and stresses, and where I can get feedback (or commiserate) on the struggles that I may be facing. I’m pretty open about everything that happens, and I like that. So, I wanted to let people know that I really do love where I am and the people I am with.
The second reason I feel the need to share this is because of something that cropped up last week after I questioned if fights like heroic Rag were good game design, not because of the inherent difficulty of the mechanics, but because of the length and flow of the fight. There were some things said by people who don’t know me, don’t know the Rag fight, and don’t know my guild. Borsk set people straight (which, honestly, overwhelmed me), but I want people to hear it from me.
Maybe we struggle with standing in the fire from time to time, but we are no stranger to hard work. Our guild history shows that. Our progression record shows this. And it’s something I’m damn damn proud of being a part of; not everyone finds a community that they love, and I feel lucky that I have.
So, I’m going to say it again: I love my guild.
We are still working heroic Rag (somewhere around 360 pulls). We are so close that I can all but feel the room getting colder as Rag is extinguished. Last night we had our next breakthrough – we managed to down a meteor (and more than once!). We had a new low on the fight (26%). And our delugers were kicking some serious ass. We are almost there, and even though I question if this fight was well made and placed well in this expansion, I am going to feel so proud when he finally goes down.
I won’t lie, I’ve probably felt like ringing 2/3 of my raid’s neck at some point and time, for a variety of reasons, during this push. But in the end, as we are staring down the home stretch, I’m proud of the team. And I’m going to be even more proud when we finish. And honestly, that’s not something anyone can take away.
I’m still putzing along with my alts. I haven’t pushed any new ones to 85, but I’ve been doing my weekly alt run with my current 85’s. I almost didn’t even put in a section about my alts, but I had a funny story that I now anted to share. You see, this week on the 25 alt run, we had a little bit of trouble with Staghelm. In fact, it took us like 5 pulls to get the kill. As we approached Rag I was pretty open with the raid.
“I’ve been wiping on this fight for the past 7 weeks. I really don’t have a lot of patience for more wiping on it. If we could focus, and not screw up, it would be appreciated”.
And we one shot it. I don’t know if it was the fact that people were seriously worried I was going to crack, if it was the 5 moonkins in the raid, or if it was good placement on the engulfing flames. Whatever it was, we mercifully finished it out in one pull, and everyone in the raid had a good laugh that we one shot Rag and fell all over ourselves on Staghelm . Made my night!
On Other Games
I’m still (slowly) working my way through Diablo II. I’m really enjoying the gameplay, and find myself looking forward to D3. Additionally, my copy of the original Diablo arrived. I’ve not installed it yet, but I’m looking forward to the old schooled goodness that it promises to bring
I finished the new J D Robb book. It was really good. However, that means that I’ve started A Feast for Crows. I went into this book knowing that a lot of people didn’t like it. So I tried really hard to have an open mind, so that I could judge for myself. And you know what? I’m really enjoying it”!
I don’t mind that there are new characters. I don’t mind that he totally cliffhanger’d the end of Storm of Swords. I still feel immersed in the world. I still feel that the story has momentum. And I find that I’m still excited when I have time to read.
Maybe I’ll feel differently as I get further into the story, but for now I’m still really enjoying it
On New Toys
I bought an iPad this weekend. I’ve been looking at it for awhile, but never wanted to make the commitment to purchasing one. The final breaking point for me was a conference that i needed to attend this week. I didn’t want to take my (very large) gaming laptop that I traveled with, so I was considering purchasing a netbook. Just something small that I could easily carry around and remained connected.
As I was talking it out with Brade, we ultimately decided that an iPad would probably be the better option for me, as I wanted one anyways. Yes, it was significantly more expensive than a net book, but in the end, I was probably going to buy an iPad anyhow. So we decided to just cut to the chase and go with what I really wanted anyhow.
Today is the first day that I’ve really gotten to utilize it, and so far I’m in love. But I’d love to hear if anyone has any app or accessory suggestions!
How about you? How was your week? Reading anything good? Get any new toys? Playing any interesting games?
