Sometimes You Just Have to Let Go   3 comments

I was going to write a post today about burning bridges because I received a particularly nasty note yesterday from someone that I genuinely enjoyed and it’s been eating at me since I read it. But when I sat down to write, I decided that I didn’t really want to think much about that vitriol filled note right now. I may still write the post, but the hurt is too fresh and my thoughts too muddled, so I’m going to think about it for awhile. Instead, I thought I’d share with you what I did today while I was in Aspen, because it was something really beautiful. And right now I need beautiful more than I need nasty.

(this was taken with my iPhone – I can’t wait to see what the ones taken with my camera turn out like!)

I’m traveling the next week and a half for work. It’s a trip that I take every year, and one that affords me two days in Aspen, Colorado. Usually I walk around and window shop during my stay here, but this year I decided to ride the gondola to the top of the mountain. It’s about a 20 minute ride to the top, and I learned very quickly that I don’t do particularly well in enclosed spaces hundreds of feet above the ground. I also decided it’s a good thing that I don’t ski, cause I’m not sure I could handle the open air lifts! Anyhow, a few deep breaths and an internal conversation convincing me that I wasn’t going to plummet to my death every time the wind blew, and before I knew it I was on top of the mountain. It was breathtaking. And it was completely worth it. I feel fresh and invigorated after my visit.

  1. Oh lord, you were only a hour and a half away from me (depending on traffic, mud slides and critters)? The Colorado Rocky Mountains are an awesome sight aren’t they? When I saw the picture the first thing I thought was…ummm, that looks familiar. Now I know why. ;D
Glad you had the chance to relax and brush off whatever was bothering you, even if for only a little while. I can’t think of a better place to do it either. I am just glad you didn’t run into any of the ‘wild’ locals up there. We have had so many fires here in our state this summer, and still have a long, hot ways to go. It’s not only the human families that have lost their homes, it’s the animals as well.

Amazing how the new phones these days take such good photos…I bet the ones with your camera will be breathtaking as well!

    Chin up!

  2. Oh gosh, I’m scared of heights too :(. Even though I’m out in BC with our own share of forests and mountains stuff, I hardly take advantage of it. The view is nice though (as long as my feet are on solid ground).

As for the burning of bridges on the receiving end, sometimes it’s just best to move on entirely. Closure’s cool and all, but in cases like this, I find burned bridge as closure enough. Be the bigger tree, walk away and let ’em stew. You got other better things on your mind anyway like exploring mountain.

  3. Love you Beru. You’ve been a wonderful leader and inspiration to me even before I knew you better. People are cruel, sometimes for no reason and they usually target those that they envy, or know that they can hurt regardless if logically that person knows it really has nothing to do with them. You have a big heart, and unfortunately there will always be sacks of shit that try to harden it by taking advantage of your feelings when they have a chip on their shoulder (that might not even be about you specifically). Just know that their actions will always say more about them as a person- than you. You have a ton of people that love and adore you, so if you ever need an angry mob- just ask ❤

Also- you are much braver than I. I don't think I could ever get into a Gondola without 4 boxes of wine and possibly a Xanax 😛 I hope you travel safe- looking forward to seeing you this week in game- and maybe when my house quits falling apart and they quit making me into a lab rat here, irl!
