This post is really a really a recruitment post, and I will get to that part, I promise! However, there was a blue post yesterday that I wanted to bring to everyone’s attention. Remember how I indicated that I just got clobbered by good monks and paladins, and it felt imbalanced? Well, it turns out they are bugged.
It’s probably not possible to overcome that much of a difference. Fortunately, you don’t have to, because paladins and monks both had some egregious bugs that inflated their healing. We actually hotfixed those bugs but then a new build broke them again. Until you get a new build or we hotfix the issues again, you are probably better off comparing druid, priest and shaman healing. I apologize for any inconvenience.
Overall, I would recommend not deciding who you’re going to bench based on beta testing until we are very close to ship. It’s not a great strategy to try to get your character buffed either.
I am encouraged by the commentary that they want healing to fall where priests, Druids and shaman are currently, as skilled players in those three classes are competitive and relatively comparable. To be sure, there are absolutely things with each of those three classes that players will indicate is still problematic and in need of a fix. But it is encouraging to know that paladins and monks are being scaled back to a more reasonable and competitive position.
Now About That Recruitment!
As it turns out we have a few healers retiring from WoW at the end of this expansion. This leaves us in a position to pick up a couple of healers on our roster. Right now we are looking for a Paladin and a Priest or Shaman.
We have a very strong and competitive healing team, and I’m confident enough to say that our healers are some of the strongest players on our roster. We push each other to be better healers, and challenge each other every raid.
If you are interested in one of the open positions, you can find additional information at www.monolithwow.com. If you have any questions, feel free to email me or ask them below and I will be happy to answer them!
Monolith is Recruiting!
As we move into Mists of Pandaria, Monolith would like to add a few strong members to our roster. We are currently looking to add 2-4 DPS to our roster, and if one or more of those happened to be a skilled warlock, I would probably kiss a felhound on the mouth. But in all seriousness, we are considering just about any DPS class right now with the exception of a hunter or a moonkin.
We raid 10.5 hours a week, over three raid nights (Sun/Wed/Thur). We raid from 8:30 – midnight est, with midnight being a hard cut off time for us. We are 8/8 Heroic, and have been farming Heroic DS for the past 3 months. Right now we clear the zone in one night, and then use a second night for Firehawk farming and other achievement shenanigans. We are an adult oriented guild, with a median age of mid-late 20’s, who enjoy what the game has to offer on limited play times, with a goal of clearing content while it is relevant.
If you think you, or someone you know, may be interested, you can learn more about the guild at http://www.monolithwow.com or email me with any questions that you may have!
And yes, for those curious, I did decorate that cake in the picture above.
Monolith is looking for you!
We are currently looking to add a skilled Death Knight and an Elemental Shaman or Demo Warlock to our progression roster. We also have room for one non-specific ranged DPS. I’ve included our entire recruitment “blurb” after the break, but thought I’d highlight a few things here!
- We are a group of adults seeking enjoyment from the game, the majority of our members are working adults with schedules and commitments outside of raiding. Our median age is mid to late 20’s.
- We have very low tollerance for Drama, and a very high demand for respect.
- We put a strong focus on individual performance and accountability – you will frequently receive feedback and constructive criticism on your performance.
- We have a strong team environment, firmly believing that you are only as strong as your weakest member.

Something that I read with regularity is advice on how to successfully complete a guild application. You know the things that you should, and should not, put in your application to give you a better chance at successfully earning a trial spot with a guild. However, I don’t often see any feedback on what you should do once you have made it past the first step (applying) and are actually in the guild.
Since (like all guilds) we’ve had our fair share of trial members this expansion, some who worked out well and some who didn’t, I thought that maybe I would offer some feedback on things that people look at when evaluating a trial in an effort to perhaps help people avoid some of the pitfalls that trials make. Happy Monday, Everyone! Why is Beru so happy on a Monday? Well, mostly because after some very long travel I am finally back home. It feels good to come back home after living in a hotel for 10 days and raiding at the mercy of hotel internet for that period of time. And believe it or not, it feels good to actually cook a meal. Eating out really does start to lose its luster after about day four (and the five pounds you add in the time you are gone). Anyhow, I have some musings to dump out of my head after so much time. Forgive me if they ramble a bit, but I really need this brain dump.
Raiding has been very good to us as late. Last week we knocked out Heroic Staghelm. This week we saw Heroic Baleroc tumble after just two nights of work on him. Not only that, but the raid team surprised me with a one shot on heroic Staghelm and over 30 seconds left on the enrage timer. Truth be told, I think everyone was expecting a second Staghelm kill to take a few pulls to shore up and most people were as pleased as I was when we walked in, high on our Baleroc kill, and knocked him out fairly easily. We had a few deaths at the end of the second set of orbs (I let my co-soaker die😦 ) but we pulled it out beautifully.
Healing Staghelm is a bit odd. There really isn’t much healing to be done on the fight outside of the orb phases – which are pretty healing heavy. Other than that it’s mostly just keeping the tank alive and topping up people who took damage from seeds or a leap. In fact, we have one priest who goes smite spec and DPSes everything but the orb phases. It hard to tell if I have a good grasp of the best way to heal the fight, as I help to soak an orb, which means I have lower legendary concentration up time. So it’s hard to tell if I should be doing certain things differently, or if I am doing things properly but see lower healing output than I’d like (comparatively) as a result of lower concentration. Oh, and we are recruiting…
But first, have a picture of a bear. This may or may not be Brade in real life, I will let you decide!
Ok, now that’s out of the way, did I mention that we are recruiting?
Monolith has opened recruitment for the following:
- One or Two Hunters.
- One Warlock (may consider a second Moonkin).
- We may also consider an exceptional mage applicant.
While you are pondering this, have another picture of a bear!
You can find our recruitment information on our website. I have also copied our “blurb” after the break, if you’d like to look it over without visiting another site! Read the rest of this entry »
We don’t raid on Tuesdays, which means we didn’t get to go in and explore Firelands until last night. I spent a fair bit of time watching people stream on Tuesday, feeling a small pang of regret that we don’t raid on Tuesdays. Needless to say, I was pretty excited about getting into the zone and experiencing the encounters for myself, and had done a whole slew of research. Granted most of what was up at that point was from the PTR, but some information is better than none, assuming to remain flexible!
We tackled Shannox first, and I thought the fight itself was pretty fun. There are a few things that I disliked – such as the completely ridiculous amount of trash leading up to the boss. I mean, is that really necessary? Really? I’m pretty sure we spent more time on the trash than we did on the boss itself. The only other complaint that I have is that if you are near a trap when one of the dogs gets trapped, you end up inside the traps model and it adjust your camera very oddly until you get moved out.
I thought that the mechanics of the encounter were fairly innovative. It’s a little tricky at first, but once you get it worked out, it’s just a matter of making sure people don’t stand in the bad. I did find the healing on it somewhat intensive, and I ended the encounter completely out of mana. Some of that is likely my lack of familiarity with the fight, and needing to time my cooldowns better to maximize my healing. Read the rest of this entry »
